Dear Candace,
This letter could also be titled, “when you are waiting for spring and feeling very Eeyorish.”
Rain, sleet, spring snow, thunderstorms…this is the Midwest! {tagline: variety is the spice of life}
I try not to whine about rain-it’s a blessing, I know. Rain is fine. I’ll adjust. Especially if I’m in London-my plan is always go to the nearest Tesco for an umbrella and then walk arm in arm with my sister to a cozy tea room. Rain in London is delightful.
I didn’t promise to never complain about cloudy grey days, though. One needs to complain about something.
What I’m telling myself is this: buck up, buttercup- when it does stop raining and greying for a moment, it’s going to be so green and bright my eyes will hurt from all the color and it will all be worth it.
Remarkably, in the strip of woods behind our neighborhood untended daffodils and jonquils have been growing wildly. Drew picked enough to fill a canning jar for our Easter dinner table. I should write that down in my “things I’m thankful for” journal. That, and the one day last week we had sunshine and hiked with a group of friends. I kept staring at the sky, like I’d never seen electric blue before.
∇ What I’m reading: I just started Glass Houses, by Louise Penny. It’s my first Penny novel, and I understand she has a collection of mystery books set in Canada and featuring Chief Inspector Armand Gamache who is undoubtably a beloved character. I’m only about two chapters in and frankly, a bit bored with it. I’m curious enough to keep reading, though, and all the 5 star reviews have me wondering-maybe I’ll change my mind?
∇ What I’m wearing: my old Target pajama sleep shirt (like this one). I’ve worn it down to a comfortable softness. It’s so cold; I’m still dressing warmly for bed and keeping my hot water bottle on hand because I’m eighty.
∇ What I’m laughing at: The Stages of Realizing You Are Late and the movie Hoodwinked {I watched this with the kids and my extended family over Naomi’s wedding weekend-it’s something we like to do together every couple years-and now it’s stuck in my head in the best way!!}
It’s April now and I’m rejoicing,
Rachel

Ooh! I read the Inspector Gamache books, and have Glass House on hold right now. So please, no spoilers, m’kay?
Rachel says
Spoilers? I would never.
