Over on Instagram,* we’ve been snickering about using a bidet during this time of toilet paper crisis but if you know me in Real Life, you’ve seen my bidet (and perhaps even dared to use it?) and know that I am COMMITTED. {Also, yes, a few people have walked out of my bathroom with Questions or spoke in hushed tones to their children.}
I wrote a lot of words on why I have a bidet and how to use it, but then it all sounded weird so I erased it.
We have one small bathroom in this house, and a few months ago Tom (with much eyebrow-arching, admittedly) installed an add-on bidet to the toilet at my most humble requests.
Like what can I say? It’s an easy, eco-friendly way to clean one’s nether regions. Using a bidet wastes less toilet paper (and therefore saves money which can be spent on coffee); it’s eco-friendly and kind to our septic system. You may be rolling your eyeballs right now, but HAVE YOU TRIED IT? Here is the one we have from Amazon, which gets excellent reviews:
It functions well, though it does take some adjustment to learn how to get the pressure and spray just right for your comfort level. {STOP LAUGHING.} I’m not sure if that’s the case with all bidets or if more expensive models have better features and are easier for first-time users. I’d also consider the Tushy brand next time-plus, you can’t look away from their advertising!!
What else? Well, let’s just say you have a bidet and prefer to pat dry but either don’t have any toilet paper on hand (read: the stores are empty during Quarantine 2020) or don’t want to use toilet paper because you are conscientious that way ….enter cloth wipes. These can be soft old socks or washcloths or I’M sorry are you grossed out? What do you think our ancestors did before the modern invention of t.p.? Next time you’re having a poop just think about that for a little while.
We still use toilet paper (otherwise certain teens would riot) and will always have it on hand but I’ve ordered these little cloth beauties so we can have additional Options:
Next, if you are a female and are looking for an alternative to tampons, consider trying a menstrual cup! I’ve been using one off and on for many years, but ever since my friends began their own company I’ve switched over to using their products consistently and couldn’t be happier!
Here are just a few of the reasons I love Pixie Cup:
-They offer different size cups to fit different needs.
-Their customer support is unmatched, and they will do their very best to educate and support you along the way.
-For every cup purchased, they give one away to a woman in need!
-They’ve given me a discount code to share with you: use wildwood15 to get 15% off your purchase at PixieCup.com!
All of this was once strange and new to me! Over time, after trying new things in my life and routine I find many of them have become indispensable and I can’t imagine going back to my former ways. There are certainly other things in my home that I’d love to replace with a more eco-friendly, all-natural version (especially if it means I can support a small business) but I’m just taking it one small change at time. I don’t judge myself or others for doing things differently. It’s all a grand adventure, right?!? #trynewthings
