Letter 33 {Wedding, Donuts}

March 26, 2018 by Rachel

Dear Candace,

Thursday, March 22:

I’m writing to you from Indy, where spring has been welcomed with fluffy snow and strong winds. Naomi’s wedding on Saturday will probably feature temps below freezing and more precipitation. Remember that proverb about March?

In like a lion, out like a lamb.

False. OPPOSITE.

However, this is not dampening our spirits in the least and we are enjoying every minute of preparation and time spent together this week! Many important tasks have already been accomplished, such as last-minute shoe shopping for certain unnamed member of the family, the purchase of chalkboards from Michael’s, flower petal accumulation (for the send-off), getting our nails done, and eating of Thai food.

Naturally, my cold has worsened and my face decided it wanted to behave as if it was going through puberty again, so that’s a joy.

Our first morning here in Indy, while I was organizing random stuff, I realized my earbuds were missing. They’re kind of important since the audio on my phone is wonky, and I need the earbuds to use the microphone and make calls. Anyway, I spent a good hour searching EVERY-WHERE for them, even enlisting Drew to help look. They were nowhere to be found. At one point he said confidentially to my mom and sister, “I bet they’re in mom’s purse.” Sure enough though. That’s where I found them. No biggie. Just wasted an hour of my life frantically searching for something I’d carefully put away.

A variety of donuts were served at the wedding reception, along with the venue’s delicious coffee

Monday, March 26:

I’m writing this from Starbucks, back in St. Louis, while the big kids are at their 10:30am class and I try, desperately, to wake up. Tom usually takes Drew to his early morning class on Mondays, and I leave the house at a much more dignified hour with the older kids. This morning Tom had to be elsewhere, which left me to fulfill drop-off duty. It’s really not that bad. Drew doesn’t have to be in class until a few minutes after 8am. But when one has been doing all the wedding things for days, and sleeping like a caffeinated squirrel, one does not simply wake up on Monday morning fresh as a posie and smiling like Pollyanna.

I digress.

The wedding was so beautiful! Naomi and Edward were a sweet, loving couple. Despite the early hours, our entire family enjoyed their morning wedding in all its uniqueness. I can’t wait to share pictures with you here! I was so impressed with the photographers. Naomi and Edward had a “first look” and outdoor photo session the day before, in sunshine, and then the morning of the wedding it snowed thickly and continued all day for an accumulation of over 7 inches! So they had both spring and winter style photo shoots. These kinds of things make up the adventures of our family!

There were a couple other hitches that took place, like Tom being given the wrong donut order and having to drive 45 minutes back to the bakery, flowers being left at the groom’s apartment (but retrieved in time), and the mic going out during the ceremony, but the point was they got married, there were plenty of donuts and coffee, and now we have some stories to laugh about! My heart really does feel very satisfied right now, even if it may take a few days for my brain to wake up.

It was good times for sure,

wish you were there,

Rachel
