Dear Candace,
I have just said goodbye to one of the most adorable babies I have ever met. Six month old Bennett, who I’ve not seen since he was a few weeks old, visited us from Denver like traveling royalty. Ever affable, generously indulging us fawning peasants with smiles and charm, he pretty much had our obeisance from the moment he arrived. There’s just something about having a baby in a house of big kids that changes the tone of everything, coloring our days with sweetness and a lot more drool and laughing.
Here is what I know about babies:
-nothing, because it’s been over a decade since I’ve had one and I either question all my methods of raising them or don’t remember how I did it because, #sleepdeprived
I want you to know that every day since Rowena and Bennett joined us, I have walked. Apparently it is a thing for mothers to put their babies in strollers and leave the house, dressed, for exercise. So we did that very thing, each day of their visit. I feel so exercised! Such an outdoors person! A burner of calories! We event went to the zoo. Naturally the increased exposure to fresh air expanded my appetite, so there was a bit more chocolate consumption than usual, but what is a little extra chocolate, among friends?
I haven’t been reading as much, since there was so much walking, eating, and baby holding to occupy my time, but here are two books I’ve begun this past week:
The Child Whisperer, by Carol Tuttle (She says it’s not too late for me to learn how to parental better!)
Never Let Me Go, by Kazuo Ishiguro (The reviews say: “suspenseful, moving, beautifully atmospheric”)
Me, Mara (sister in STL), Rowena (mother of adored infant)
Clearly all this outdoor walking has done nothing for my skin-tone.
Happy spring days are here!
Love,
Rachel
